The inspiration for the Upright Collection began with a ring I purchased in Iceland in 2017. While exploring a ceramics store owned by local artists in Reykjavik, my attention was captured by a silver band featuring a carved ceramic ball. This ring challenged my perceptions of what a ring could be; that they don't have to be small or flat to be both wearable and comfortable. The 3D element adds height and presence, making the ring like a miniature sculpture for the hand. This piece has helped open my mind to exciting new design possibilities.
The Iceland Ring
The Upright Collection is also inspired by the meticulous process of creating hollow form rings. Unlike full hollow forms, this collection intentionally leaves off an outer sheet of metal, creating an open space under the focal—the hollow spot. This design choice offers a sense of airiness and lightness, bringing balance to the solid, durable nature of the jewelry.
I wanted the collection to feature an "essential" piece that could be customized to fit any size, and that’s how the 'Wild Seas' ring was created. This design features a strip of silver, artfully heated to reveal a wild, organic texture; like looking into a tempestuous, roiling sea. The tactility of the focal is so intense that I joined it with a smooth, unadorned band to ensure all the attention remains on the top element.

In addition to the all-silver pieces, the collection needed rings with stones, mostly because it's hard for me to make a collection of jewelry without stones. Three purplish sapphires and two milky Quartzes, each chosen for its unique character, sit atop of the other five rings in the set.
The bands of these rings are carefully crafted using a variety of techniques to add texture and depth, ensuring that each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. These rings not only complement the all-silver pieces but bring a vibrant energy to the entire collection.
