The Luminosa pieces from the recent Lucida Collection are the most labor-intensive of the whole collection. They require cutting many many marquise-shaped blanks from a sheet of silver, hand-texturing each piece, then doming and soldering together two pieces, back to back, to create the 3-dimensional domed component.
And that's not all.
Each component is then given a small tube and meticulously soldered together with silver rings to complete the bracelet or necklace. They are carefully sanded, filed, smoothed, and finished with oxidation and polishing to bring you a beautifully unique piece of jewelry.
I LOVE making these intricate pieces, but they require alot of time and materials and therefore must be made-to-order.
They are called Luminosa because of the radiating starburst texture on each piece. It reminds me of looking up at the night sky and seeing the twinkling stars. Or thinking about how stars go supernova and blast themselves completely apart into space to complete the cycle and become new stars.
Not only the texture, but I wanted to create jewelry that has some dimension and stands away from the body. It's so much more interesting when jewelry stands up and out instead of being flat.
This entire collection is based on radiating texture and how it makes me think of celestial phenomena like starbursts, supernovae, and how radio waves and solar wind move through the vacuum of space. More than that, it reminds me of how we are all connected: to the universe, to the planet, and to each other.
Please look through the Lucida Collection and find a piece that resonates with you.
